Eight years ago - Ad multos annos for the future
The 8th anniversary of the foundation of the Haus der Musik was more than a nostalgic look back: it was both a successful event attended by large numbers of visitors and at the same time the starting signal for the new future of the Sound Museum.
Interest in music - particularly among young people - has never been higher. This is also supported by the new media, to which the Haus der Musik will devote itself more strongly in future, with new interactive installations, crossovers and special events.
The Sound Museum in District 1 regards itself as a permanent experimentation zone - exactly what its mentor and Honorary President Zubin Mehta had in mind. On 20th June the Maestro will be joining Dr. Clemens Hellsberg, Chairman of the Vienna Philharmonic, in discussion.
That brings us to the highlights of the coming month: The "Summa cum laude" festival of young musicmakers and choirs on 6th and 7th July, the appearance of Agnes Milewski as part of the Live on Stage concert series, etc, etc, etc.
The Haus der Musik doesn't take a summer break - on the contrary, the Sound Museum is open to visitors every single day from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. So there's nothing to stop you paying a late evening visit to the museum...

The ultimate top event in June 2008 is the Artist Conversation with Dr Clemens Hellsberg and Zubin Mehta, but the other events also speak for themselves: Marko Simsa invites you to "Vivaldi for Children" on 20th June (the same day as the Artist Conversation) and during the summer months the Wiener Ferienspiel holiday playscheme is also visiting the Haus der Musik, offering children and grown-ups alike the opportunity to make and hear music. |

Musical experiences during the summer holidays. As in past years, the Haus der Music is once again participating in the holiday playscheme that has become a hit for all the kids (and their parents) who've stayed at home for the summer holidays. A low-priced holiday pass offers admission to dozens of events, courses, guided tours, workshops, etc. free of charge or at reduced prices. |

The "Summa Cum Laude" International Youth Music Festival in Vienna's Musikverein concert hall is unlike any other of the many youth music competitions: unconventional, informal, yet of the highest standard. The Haus der Musik is also involved as a location and stage for the young musicians. |

The day is finally here. On 30th June the "Etablissement Ronacher" will be re-opened: modernised and with a stage that offers state-of-the-art technology, fantastic acoustics and all the conveniences that one expects from a modern musical theatre. Once again Vienna has a stage of international standard in a stylish ambience for musicals and theatre, combining nostalgia and modernity. The premiere is a forerunner of things to come - "The Producers" by Mel Brooks. |
