The New Year's Concert
For the second time in succession, the 2009 New Year's Concert was conducted by Viennese favourite Georges Prêtre. Once again he managed to make it into a memorable event that included some relatively little known works. The result is well worth a listen.
The ORF production, available since 14 January on DVD by Universal, has been specially adapted for Haus der Musik and the Philharmonic Museum as an HD quality best-of version: a thirty-minute feast for the ears and eyes with Georges Prêtre getting the best out of the Vienna Philharmonic, and impressive performances and camerawork in a quality that faithfully captures the atmosphere of the Goldener Saal in the Musikverein.
To be seen every hour on the hour from the end of January at Haus der Musik. The official Universal DVD can also be purchased in the Haus der Musik shop - a record that every music lover should have at home.
