Summer Music Nights 09
Maria Doyle Kennedy and Francis International Airport
Both of these concerts are very special events. Maria Doyle Kennedy is not only an original member of Black Velvet and an outstanding actress but also an astonishing solo artist. And Francis International Airport are no strangers to HAUS DER MUSIK.
Maria Doyle Kennedy
Live on Stage on 14 July 2009 at 8 pm
The former singer of the Black Velvet Band is probably best known in Austria as an actress. Apart from her film and television work (debut in Alan Parker's The Commitments, winner of the 2008 Irish Film Prize for her role in the TV series The Tudors), she has recorded four solo albums (current hit: "Mütter") and founded the Mermaid label. Kennedy has a distinctively husky voice and is a cross between a rock diva and sparkling folk-oriented chansonniere.
Francis International Airport
Live on Stage on 20 August 2009 at 8 pm
"What they play is quite adult and international: gentle, hanging tracks reminiscent of Death Cab For Cutie with a yearning for breadth and violins and not just a quick boom." (Süddeutsche Zeitung)
"On their debut album, they play electronically underpinned indie pop with a warm leisurely atmosphere that usually opts for reduction rather than a wall of sound and nevertheless results in astonishingly multifaceted and moody arrangements." (Intro)
About Francis International Airport
Francis International Airport have a mellow sound: moving texts and music with an affinity to Death Cab For Cutie, Postal Service and lots of other Benjamin Gibbard references, minimal electrification, soft guitar sequences and the distinctive voices give no indication of the group's village roots in Lower Austria - except when they make the announcements at live concerts in their delightful dialect.
