A special exhibition at Haus der Musik celebrates Bernstein's 100th birthday
On August 25, 2018, Bernstein would have been a 100 years old. To celebrate this, the Haus der Musik is devoting the new special exhibition to this exceptional artist (October 17, 2018 to April 22, 2019).

Special exhibition in the Haus der Musik
When Arnold Schönberg broke with all traditions with his completely new way of composing more than a century ago, he ushered in one of the most radical upheavals in the history of music. As the father of twelve tone music, he is one of the great pioneers of Viennese Modernism alongside Klimt, Schiele and Wagner. The Haus der Musik now dedicates the new special exhibition to him and his pupils Alban Berg and Anton Webern, taking place in the inner courtyard from February 2nd to October 7th, 2018.
This year the Vienna Philharmonic celebrates its 175th anniversary. 1842 was also the year of the founding of the New York Philharmonic. This led to a joint exhibition that opened on February 22 in the Austrian Cultural Forum in New York. On March 29, the exhibition Vienna and New York: 175 Years of Two Philharmonics will open in the foyer of the Haus der Musik in Vienna, and can be viewed free of charge until January 2018. Our Music Education Team will also present special expert tours of the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra!more
With the premiere of Gernot Kranner’s sing-along musical ‘Mowgli and the Jungle Book’.
The series of children’s concerts in the Haus der Musik recommences in September with the usual entertaining concerts to sing-along and dance-along to! It all kicks off on September 15th at 3.30 pm with the premiere of ‘Mowgli and the Jungle Book’, the new join-in musical by and with Gernot Kranner. Bernhard Fibich returns on September 23rd with fun songs and ‘Kuddelmuddel und Gesprudel’!more
During the holiday season you can dive into the world of music and sound!
The Sound Museum is open daily from 10am to 10pm (6pm on December 24). Also on December 24, Gernot Kranner will perform the Christmas special for Children "Peter Pan!" at 10:30am and 2pm. On New Year’s Eve, Haus der Musik participates in the Vienna New Year’s Eve Trail granting free admission from 2pm to 10pm.more

Our “Live on Stage” autumn dates have already generated lots of interest. The line-up features Aldous Harding (29.10.) and the grandiose chanteuse Haley Heynderickx (18.10.), among others. Furthermore, Alex Diehl is celebrating his Vienna-premiere on October 24th.more

To mark the 17th Anniversary of Haus der Musik, we're hosting a Museum Open Day, in collaboration with the daily newspaper, KURIER! Haus der Musik offers a variety of guided tours for all ages, covering a wide range of musical themes. In addition to its regular weekend children's tours (every Saturday at 2:00 pm and every Sunday at 10:00 am and 2:00 pm), our music education team will also present special expert tours of the Vienna Philharmonic in May, to coincide with the new special exhibition in the Inner Courtyard at Haus der Musik: at 11:00 am on Saturday 13 and Saturday 20 May.more
Mozart, Vivaldi and comical songs!
Marko Simsa provides his young audience with a playful introduction to classical music. On 6 May, he will present two children's concerts featuring Mozart and Vivaldi: "Nachtmusik and The Magic Flute" at 2:30 pm and "The Four Seasons" at 4:30 pm. The popular children's singer-songwriter, Bernhard Fibich, is set to make another guest appearance at 3:30 pm on 13 May, performing "Anna hat Geburtstag"!more

Become the “Virtual Conductor” of the masterpiece
In winter 1866/67, Johann Strauss composed the Waltz „By the beautiful blue Danube”, op. 314, short - the Blue Danube. Soon after, the work became Vienna’s unofficial anthem and one of the most performed pieces of music in the classical repertoire worldwide. At Haus der Musik, the visitors get the unique opportunity to conduct the work themselves, as “virtual conductor” and a whole exhibition room is dedicated to Johann Strauss (1825 - 1899) and the Viennese Waltz.more
Gustavo Dudamel and the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra
The 2017 New Year's Concert took place on January 1, 2017, under the baton of Gustavo Dudamel in the Vienna Musikverein. Gustavo Dudamel, who was born in Barquisimeto, Venezuela in 1981, became the youngest conductor in the 75 year history of the New Year's Concert. The concertwas broadcast in over 90 countries and followed by up to 50 million television viewers around the world. In February Haus der Musik awaits its visitors with an extended range of guided tours during the semester break and two additional special tours : On February 14th on the occasion of Valentine's day, together with our guides we will embark on a journey through time back to the viennese classic, where we will discover the love life of the greatest composers. On February 27th, Haus der Musik is taken over by jesters and fools, join them on a special carnival edition tour for children.more

Music education initiative for school classes in Austria
As the official partner and ambassador of the Lang Lang International Music Foundation in Austria, the Haus der Musik, following the music learning programme “Stairplay – Music Step by Step”, has successfully launched further projects. Thanks to the financial support of the Soulier Family as a “Platinum Donor”, the musical instruments necessary for teaching have been acquired for the Music School Enzersdorf. In addition, this donation has enabled the music education offerings in the Haus der Musik, above all those for schools, to be further expanded.more

In addition to the interactive staircase “Stairplay”, Haus der Musik and Prof. Dr. Hubert Gruber, in cooperation with the Lang Lang International Music Foundation present the same-titled learning game for kids as well as grown-ups that can easily be played in school or at home. It consists of 21 cards alongside 11 learn sequences with many helpful tips, which can be downloaded from our website.more
